Social Services

Specific services are geared to each Head Start family after its needs are determined. They include community outreach, referrals, strengths assessment, recruitment and enrollment of children, and emergency assistance and/or crisis intervention.

Program Goals

02Overwhelmed by multiple jobs, language barriers, bills, and/or health issues, many parents are not aware of existing Head Start programs that are available to help. Salt Lake CAP Head Start social service programs are designed to empower struggling parents and families, to help them stand on their own, and to eliminate the cycle of poverty.

Head Start social service programs are geared toward identifying specific needs in Head Start students and families. If an issue is discovered, Head Start has resources within, as well as in the community, to recommend a viable solution. Family Advocates follow through on issues with families and help make sure a positive outcome is reached.

Head Start Family Advocates work one-on-one with families to identify the sources of stresses or problems and connect parents with the appropriate programs. Family Advocates can help family members work through problems such as drug or alcohol abuse, disabilities or health issues, and unemployment difficulties. Head Start social service programs strengthen families by working toward achieving goals, providing opportunities to volunteer, and creating an environment where parents feel they have a voice that is listened to and valued.

Social Service Facts
